Lammershoek, Swartland
The Swartland seems an inappropriate name for this vivid landscape of wheatfield-gold and vineyard-green framed by jagged mountains and a brilliant blue sky. Just 50km north of Cape Town, it remains off the beaten track - and this is especially true of the Paardeberg, a granite outcrop between Malmesbury and Paarl where former Plascon MD Paul Kretzel bought Lammershoek in 1995.
