Cape Point Vineyards

Over tea and chilli bites (a combo from which my palate has never fully recovered), my Uncle Hubert would list the many reasons he lived in Fish Hoek. And the fact that it was South Africa's only teetotal town was right at the top.

Romanrivier Cellar

Mountain Ridge Pinotage 2003 is the winner of this year's WINE magazine TOPS at SPAR Value for Money Pinotage Award - and a case of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, with Romansrivier Cellar near Wolseley having almost considered closure three years ago. Joanne Simon reports on a battle hard fought and deservedly won.

Etienne le Riche, Stellenbosch

In the South African context it is unusual to find a producer focusing his attention almost solely on one grape. For Stellenbosch's Etienne le Riche that grape is Cabernet Sauvignon. Fiona McDonald finds out why.

Marc Kent, Franschhoek

As if Boekenhoutskloof wines don't attract enough attention, winemaker Marc Kent wants his say. Christian Eedes speaks to him about his Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sterhuis, Stellenbosch

Standing near the crest of the Bottelary Kop, with Stellenbosch down below, and panning your gaze from left to right, you can see Somerset West and the Helderberg, False Bay, Table Mountain and Table Bay, and right the way to the Durbanville Hills and beyond.

Bloemendal Estate, Durbanville

Laid-back at the best of times, winemaker Jackie Coetzee should be almost horizontal after a walk around his new meditation maze at Bloemendal Estate. Instead, he can hardly contain his excitement. After a nerve-racking wait, the final grapes on his 238-hectare property in the Durbanville Hills will soon be picked. And these aren't any old grapes but Sauvignon Blanc from Bloemendal's Suider Terras vineyard, perched on a hill at 350m above sea level. "Those aromas!" he exclaims. "They make me feel so alive!"

Havana Hills

Havana Hills, situated in the largely unheralded Swartland area, has burst onto the scene with a string of awards in the last couple of years. Christian Eedes reports on this exciting new producer.

Raka, Hermanus

The owner of Raka near Stanford may be a little rough around the edges (sensitive readers be warned!) but his wines are surprisingly refined. Joanne Simon meets fisherman Piet Dreyer and his winemaking crew.

Thelema, Stellenbosch

Unusual for the Cape, Thelema Merlot rivals the property's Cabernet Sauvignon for quality. Christian Eedes interviewed winemaker Gyles Webb.

Kanu, Stellenbosch

Disaster struck Kanu in 2004 - and it wasn't the departure of winemaker Teddy Hall who left mid-2003.
