ONE NIGHT TASTINGS FOR SA'S BEST-JUDGED WINES IN CAPE TOWN AND JOHANNESBURG
The annual Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show public wine tastings take place in May 2010, affording wine lovers the opportunity to taste the best South African wines as judged at this year's show. Gauteng and the Western Cape tasting patrons should note the earlier date in the wine calendar and diarise 21 May at Hilton Sandton and 28 May at CTICC. The public tastings come hot on the heels of the awards announcement on 17 May when the Most Successful Producer, Best White and Best Red Wines and the best value Discovery of the Show are unveiled. Around 90 wines - all achieving Trophy, Gold or Silver medal status - will be showcased for tasting with the option to purchase. As is the tradition of the show, wine lovers should expect to enjoy some regularly applauded wines but can also anticipate some surprises.
Achieving an Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show medal is considered a significant accolade by the local wine industry thanks to the intense scrutiny that each of the wine entry is subjected to. All wines - usually entries total in the region of 1 000 wines - are judged 'blind' by a panel of reputed international and local judges, who are committed to revealing the best wines of the year for the benefit of the South African wine consumer.
