Sides at Ten Bompas

Most days you'll find Sides abuzz with Joburg's corporate and political who's who. And with good reason. It's been given its own identity and a complete change of menu and decor. Clean, contemporary lines make for a spacious, Zen-like eaterie, which opens onto the lush gardens in summer and closes up with a roaring fire set in a light stone wall in the winter months.

The kitchen at Shoga proves conclusively that you don't need electricity to produce heavenly food. It has two ways of preparing dishes - in a tandoor or pizza oven, both wood-fired, and both producing food of great subtlety and taste.

Browns

It's not often you're invited to visit a restaurant's wine cellar as part of the dining experience. Browns of Rivonia, the rambling, country-club style haunt of the well-heeled in flight from Sandton Square, makes a point of it. So much so that the winelist, which tags behind the menu is, to put it kindly, scanty.
