This cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut (also called Hermitage) was first engineered by Stellenbosch University’s Professor Abraham Perold in 1925. Perhaps the variety's greatest attribute is the depth of fruit it delivers but it needs careful winemaking if rustic, inelegant wines are to be avoided.
