Retief Goosen
One of South Africa's top professional golfers, Retief "The Goose" Goosen's main achievements include winning the US Open in 2001 and 2004. His greatest extravagance, however, is his wine farm near George. Jeanri-Tine van Zyl reports.
What was the first bottle of wine that all made sense and why?
My first bottle of wine was a Chardonnay because that's what my wife, Tracy, drinks.
What was your most memorable wine experience?
Can't remember because it was that good!
What was the last wine that you bought?
Chilean Chardonnay, which I had at dinner last night. [While staying at the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai during the Dubai World Championship in November.]
How big is your wine collection and where do you store it?
Don't have a wine collection; I drink it too quickly so no need for a cellar!
Which are your favourite South African wine producers?
There are a lot of great wines in South Africa but obviously I would recommend The Goose Wines!
What do you like least about wine?
Corked wine.
What is your favourite meal?
My wife Tracy's chicken dish.
What are your favourite restaurants in South Africa?
De Vetta Mossel in Mossel Bay.
Which three people would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?
My wife and my two children, Leo and Ella.
What is your most treasured possession?
My wife and my two children.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Owning a wine farm. I don't really read books, but I do read a lot of magazines, mainly about cars and golf.

Andrea Boccelli and Kings of Leon.

Bermuda.

Cape Town.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Having the family around.
