TOFFEE AND WINE
Lord’s Winery in McGregor wanted to do something different from the usual wine tastings, so decided on what many may consider to be an unusual combination: toffee and wine!
Five different toffees are paired with five estate wines, including the Sauvignon Blanc 2010, which is paired with a cashew and cranberry toffee, highlighting the tropical-fruit flavours of the wine. The barrel-fermented Chardonnay 2010 is paired with a macadamia toffee, highlighting the nutty characteristics of the wine. Of the most unusual pairings is the Pinot Noir 2008 with the chilli toffee, which brings the palate’s red cherries to the fore and highlights the earthy notes in the finish.
