At its best, Bokkie Botha’s cooking reflects his joy in Prince Albert’s glorious seasonal produce. Starters are his forte. Fresh figs seemingly beg to be wrapped in local charcuterie. Tomatoes and basil fuse into heritage tomato tarts that combine the best of Mediterranean cuisine and local ‘tuis gemaak’ charm. Home-grown sorrel provides perfect citrus nuances to a charming cauliflower soup. Curiously, for a restaurant where meals always starts so well, main courses are often disappointing – the Karoo lamb is tough, and hot dishes tend to be delivered cold. Waiters are under-supervised and seem to be afraid of English-speaking customers
