This eatery is situated in a big room – both breakfast and dinner venue for hotel guests, done out in rather bland, modern international hotel style. At breakfast the eating area opens out onto a terrace with great views of the Indian Ocean – the perfect foil to platters of smoked salmon, cheese and charcuterie. In the evening, retro-chic classics like oysters Rockefeller, tournedos of salmon and roast rib of beef take the lead. Executive chef Louis van Reenen has begun to make his mark with modern twists like beef consommé with shiitake mushrooms and oxtail wonton. The langoustines poached with coconut and lemongrass will make you loose all decorum as you wipe up surplus sauce with your fingers. Desserts are run-of-the-mill, the most interesting being the Cointreau soufflé.
