Sisters Fiona and Clare Ras have created a booming business that is a lot of things to a lot of people – bustling shopping centre café, kitchen shop for connoisseurs, über-chic delicatessen, demonstration kitchen for cooking classes, catering company HQ and now nascent cookbook publishing empire. It is possible to use Sprigs as a simple coffee and cookies venue – they serve the best cheesecake and chocolate brownies in town – or as a serious culinary adventure. The extensive pay-as-you-weigh lunchtime buffet contains an array of aromatic, elegant delicacies. Persian lamb with toasted almonds competes for customer attention with lemon leaf-topped lentil bobotie and roasted tomato tarts. You haven’t lived until you taste the lemon and rosemary cake.
