OVER-ACHIEVER SPIER SNATCHES ANOTHER TOP AWARD
Apart from receiving the Fairbairn Capital Trophy for Most Successful Producer at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show this year, Spier was also SA’s top achiever at the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition in Luxembourg in May. A total of 7386 wines and spirits from 49 countries compete in this annual competition, and Spier was one of three local wine farms that received a Grand Gold Medal for its Private Collection Shiraz 2008 – which, incidentally, was also awarded a gold medal at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in June. In addition, the farm received a further five gold medals in Luxembourg for its Spier Creative Block 3 2009, Spier Creative Block 5 2009, Spier Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Naledi Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and Groote Kaap Viognier 2010. A further five wines received silver medals. Other local wineries Dieu Donné Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and Grande Provence 2006 were also awarded a Grand Gold Medal.
