Sophia's in Somerset West

Published: 01 Dec 10

Fans of screen siren Sophia Loren can pay homage at Morgenster Estate in Somerset West. Italian winery owner Guilio Bertrand was inspired by the actress of his homeland in naming his new restaurant Sophia’s at Morgenster.

The scene: an old-style thatched cottage near olive groves with white square tables and red Italian chairs as modern touches. The culinary directors: dynamic duo Craig Cormack and Bertus Basson – the latter hands-on at Overture restaurant.

The mood: bistro and Mediterranean favourites. Avo ritz with a Cormack twist, braised lamb loin with mash and buttered leeks, to tarte tatin and strawberry mousse with seasonal berries.

Star appeal: experience Cormack’s innovative Morgenster wine and salt tasting with selected salted foods in the winery tasting room.         Call 021 852 1738 or go to www.morgenster.co.za
