Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel flies high as SAA MCC for 2012
South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique, the iconic Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel, is still flying high after 40 years, with its 2007 vintage being voted the South African Airways MCC for 2012.
No newcomer to the ‘mile high’ club, Simonsig Estate, enjoys a consistent record of consecutive listings with the airline spanning 22 years and in addition to the Kaapse Vonkel 2007 its latest vintage Chenin Blanc 2011 has also been selected as a frequent flyer on SAA domestic flights for 2012. The first Simonsig wine to be selected by SAA was the Simonsig Shiraz 1984 in 1989.
In 2012, economy class passengers on SAA domestic flights can enjoy the multi award-winning Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2011 (187 ml) while those in the premium class will be able to enjoy the Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2011 (750ml) and Kaapse Vonkel 2007 while up in the air.
“Our 2012 on-board listings acknowledge our wines’ depth of performance, even at high altitude. We always strive to aim high when it comes to quality and the fulfilment of our wines and we are delighted to be able to share our pride and passion with those who are going places,” shares Johan Malan, winemaker and one of three brothers who own this legendary Stellenbosch estate.
