Secrets of the Sommeliers

Published: 20 Apr 11

SECRETS OF THE SOMMELIERS

Having grown up in Calcutta, Rajat Parr’s life was, from the beginning, infused with flavours, scents and colour. Thanks to these early surroundings, food became a fascination and, as a consequence, his interest in wine evolved. Part biography, part wine guide, Secrets of the Sommeliers, written together with journalist Jordan Mackay, is the story of Parr’s life as a sommelier, in which he also provides advice on buying and storing wine, ordering wine at a restaurant and food and wine pairing.

Drawing from his own experience and that of other sommeliers, a central focus is on how to taste wine – and how to get better at it. As you’d expect, food and wine pairing guidelines also occupy much of the book, but most importantly it opens up the inside world of sommeliers, teaching readers “how to think and drink like a sommelier”.

Secrets of the Sommeliers retails for R310 from Chefs Warehouse.
