Screwpull’s Cooler Sleeve

Published: 21 Jul 10

Proudly pouring South Africa

The 2010 Soccer World Cup has just ended, and although Bafana Bafana's spell was brief, the patriotic result will be remembered long after supporters' paraphernalia has been banished to cupboards and cardboard boxes.

Locally, the beautiful game will be remembered for names like Siphiwe Tshabalala and Itumeleng Khune, for the sound of vuvuzelas that took the world by storm and for bold makarapas adorning faces that cry out "Ayoba!" Yes, the game is over, but as a host nation South Africa will always be praised - in spite of cynics' predictions.

Screwpull's Cooler Sleeve draws on this national pride by incorporating the South African flag. Apart from illustrating your patriotic gusto, its aim is basic: to keep your wine chilled for as long as possible, even when enjoyed alfresco or next to a braai.

Before opening your wine, it is suggested that the sleeve be put into the freezer some hours ahead of serving time to allow for the gel-like liquid inside to freeze. It would also be wise to refrigerate your white wine to achieve optimum serving temperature. Although this sleeve maintains rather than alters temperature, we did find use in chilling down a Pinot Noir just slightly.

At room temperature the Pinot Noir benefited from the cooling effect of the sleeve, optimising drinking enjoyment. Made from durable material, the sleeve has elastic sides and a tapered top ensuring a snug fit over all 750ml bottles of wine and Champagne.

The Screwpull Cooler Sleeve is available through Le Creuset and retails for R148. Visit www.lecreuset.co.za or call 0861 77 33 21 for further details.
