Sauvignon Blanc TOP 10 Wine Awards

The awards lunch took place on 15 October at Den Anker Restaurant & Bar at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. The Top 10 wines were all lined up on a table where guests could taste them at their leisure. These included three 5 Star stunners - the Havana Hills 2009, Delaire 2009 and Graham Beck Pheasants' Run 2009.

But with no wine having scored less than 4½ Stars, it came down to personal taste rather than actual quality as far as finding the perfect food-and-wine match was concerned. The other wines to feature were Avonrood Reserve 2009, De Grendel Koetshuis 2009, Durbanville Hills Biesjes Craal 2009, Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Limited Release 2009, Graham Beck Pheasants' Run 2008, Nederburg Manor House 2009 and Nitida Club Select 2009.

The restaurant, which specialises in seasonal delicacies and seafood, served three savoury courses: warm goat's cheese salad, ravioli of crayfish, and Cape salmon with a saffron beurre blanc.
