SA’s leading first lady of wine

Published: 01 Nov 10

Cape Town-born Lynne Sheriff has been voted to head the world’s most prestigious wine education and professional body. She will forthwith chair the Institute of Masters of Wine, based in London. Sheriff, who began her career in the hotel business, pursued her love for wine and studied winemaking in Stellenbosch, Germany and Bordeaux. In 1993, she graduated as a Master of Wine, the highest professional accreditation conferred in the wine industry. In South Africa, only three others have achieved MW status: Cathy van Zyl, Peter Koff and Greg Sherwood.

" OK this lady is clearly a very big name in the SA wine business. Now why can't we have people like this in the US and running WOSA to promote the biggest wine market in the world we are so badly completely missing out on? "
