Roadside stop

Published: 01 Aug 11

ROADSIDE STOP
De Huguenot Estate recently opened its glass terrace doors at Pniel on the welltravelled Helshoogte road. Inspired by crowds flocking to nearby Delaire Graff and Tokara’s restaurants, De Huguenot concentrates on luxury eating and sleeping options in four suites, with magnificent scenery as a backdrop.

Owner Marianne Gray has dabbled in guesthouses, interior furnishings and gardens previously. Chef Tanya Kruger (formerly cooking at Hunter’s Country House) has been enlisted to oversee the elegant restaurant, bar and deli shop. Enjoy an elegant lunch at The Marianne restaurant on brocade tablecloths while admiring mountains – dishes range from oxtail ravioli to rack of lamb, chocolate fondant and signature passion-fruit soufflé. Alternatively, Fraiche deli has patio tables with a garden-hideaway feel, with flexible ordering and breads, pastries and scones to lure passers-by for brunch or tea.

De Huguenot Estate, Helshoogte Road, Johannesdal, Stellenbosch; tel 021 885 1240
