Chef's Table at Pierneef á La Motte Restaurant

Published: 26 Apr 11

EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL THING

Wanting to experience traditional cuisine, U2 front man Bono opted to enjoy lunch at La Motte’s Pierneef restaurant in Franschhoek during the band’s recent 360° Tour. He opted to dine out in the open, in sight of flashing cameras and gaping fans, but lately the restaurant has unveiled an exclusive, private venue perfect for intimate dinners – suited to those who prefer seclusion. At the newly unveiled Chef’s Table, a party of up to eight can enjoy an individually created six-course menu, including selected La Motte wines, in a beautiful corner adorned with Pierneef art. The experience is unique in that guests can plan their menu with chef Chris Erasmus (pictured here) as the creative guide.

Passionate about Cape winelands cuisine, traditional food styles were celebrated at the pre-launch dinner. Following a sweet-andsavoury approach, dishes included variations of foie gras and apricot chutney, organic pork belly and prawn caramel, Franschhoek trout on spare-rib puy lentils and liquorice emulsion…. and an array of other creative plates! Matched with a range of La Motte’s red wines, as well as some international counterparts, lends a lot of esteem to the concept. At R1 000 per person, it is perhaps better suited to those with rockstar pockets – but ‘It’s a beautiful day’ indeed when you get the opportunity to enjoy it.

The Pierneef á La Motte Restaurant Chef’s Table is available for private parties for up to eight for Wednesday lunch or dinner on Saturday evenings.
