Paarl wine region

Published: 11 Feb 09

From the N1 into the town of Paarl it’s not far to Laborie and KWV. To get to Nederburg you continue along the Main road, turn right into Oosbosch, which leads into Meaker, across the R301/Jan van Riebeeck into Sonstraal – alternatively, take the Daljosafat exit from the N1, heading north then west on Sonstraal.

Continuing further north along Main through Paarl leads to a fork in the road – left to Boland, Under Oaks and Wellington on the Noord-Agter Paarl road, right to Veenwouden and Bernheim on the Malmesbury road.

North-west of Paarl Mountain, you can get to Voor Paardeberg via the Windmeul-Perdeberg road off the R44, or via the R45 to Malmesbury, both taking in a route with Horse Mountain and David Frost to the north-east of the ward, Ayama and Anthony Smook to the south-west, Vondeling and Scali along the way.

And in the far north of the Paarl district are the Wellington cellars of Diemersfontein, Hildenbrand and Mont du Toit, Wamakersvallei, Doolhof and Bosman, Schalk Burger, Mischa and Linton Park.

The brandy makers: Backsberg, Laborie, Nederburg, Oude Wellington and Upland.
