More romantic restaurants

Forget the wilted roses and cheesy card. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and few are the women who won’t go weak at the knees for an intimate dinner.

First conceived in 2002, Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block has grown its red blend market share every year since.

WHY? Because this modern winery and superb restaurant high on the slopes of the Helderberg can accommodate from 30 to 100 guests, and can even throw in a dance floor, while a Bedouin tent outside can allow a bigger group. Have your ceremony out on the lawn with panoramic views of vineyards and mountains, followed by sunset drinks by the dam or on the stoep, and then savour gourmet cuisine by Eat Out Top Ten chef Bertus Basson. New to the estate is a dedicated wedding coordinator to assist with the planning of your special day. There's no shortage of photographic opportunities, from vineyards and olive groves to a gorgeous barrel cellar. The fee includes exclusive use of the Hidden Valley function venue and gardens, including barrel cellar for the ceremony, and a customised three-course meal as decided by the chef and bridal couple (the main reason for variance in price). Wines are from the Hidden Valley stable only, except for sparkling wine, which is sourced by the restaurant.

WE THINK... the amazing food alone is a major selling point, while the modern interiors blend well with either a romantic or very contemporary look. Together with the venue's accommodating team, it's the perfect canvas for your wedding.

Café 1999

"A celebration of taste" is the creed at Café 1999. Each of the exciting range of dishes comes in two sizes, starter and main - described as "bit parts" or "big parts", all with a modern Mediterranean influence - and together, chef Marcelle Labuschagne and partner Sean Roberts (front of house), impress with their style and zest for great food and service.
