Olifants River wine region

Published: 11 Feb 09

Most of the Olifants River producers are west of the N7, after the Stellar organic winery, Klawer exit. There’s Cape Rock and registered estate Oubenheim off the R362, with the main wine route from Klawer on the R363 taking you past Wilgenhof, Spruitdrift and Stoumann’s, on to Vredendal, Bellpost, Lutzville and beyond – Spruitdrift, together with Vredendal, being part of the Westcorp group.

Two new cellars that have sprung up close to the Atlantic coast in recent years are Fryer’s Cove outside Doring Bay, south-west of Vredendal, and Sir Lambert outside Lamberts Bay – the town of Lamberts Bay also accessible via the R364 from the N7 (Clanwilliam exit), and possibly the best place to head for should you be travelling in the area around lunchtime.
