New look for Chateau Libertas

Published: 26 Jul 11

"The same but different," is the message from Distell.

Chateau Libertas, one of South Africa’s favourite red blends and also one of its longest-established (since 1932), has been given a dramatically new look as it gears up for its 80th birthday next year.

The new face, says brand spokesperson Jackie Olivier, is a modern, revitalised interpretation in keeping with the times.

At least they kept the cork closure...

The Chateau Libertas label has an all new look. The make-over comes as the famous red blend prepares to celebrate its 80th birthday in 2012.

" I believe that this label is a step forward. Libertas is actually a fine quaffing vino, it is trust worthy and reliable, and represents genuine value for money if consumed understanding the wines' virtues - the previous label only has our trust because we are old Libertas allies - at first glance for the new buyer, i feel that old label was in danger of pulling Libertas to where "tassies" is in the market's perception. Libertas deserves more from the youngsters - this label captures that quite well i believe. well done guys. "

" Whilst there has been an attempt to clean up the label it has lost the 'richness' versus the previous label. The lighter yellow talks to less body in the wine. A big move with maybe a step too far for this icon. "
