New Chef, new look

Published: 01 Sep 11

Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant reopens this September with a new chef at the helm and alfresco dining with glorious views. Matthew Gordon has bowed out and chef Ryan Shell is heading the kitchen. The former Prue Leith Chefs Academy lecturer is no stranger to the Western Cape, working previously with Margot Janse and Chris Erasmus at The Tasting Room, as well as at Myoga and Ginja restaurants. Shell will be introducing changes slowly and wine-friendly food remains a priority.

“It’s an established place with a way of doing things, so we’re going to keep food in a similar style but obviously include my additions here and there,” says Shell. Repeat guests should still be able to order popular Cabrière signatures such as seared tuna, or mussels in creamy wine sauce. Christiane von Arnim has introduced decor touches and an outdoor terrace with dining tables – expect wining and dining on Franschhoek Pass while marvelling at valley views.
