Down South food bar

Published: 01 Jan 11

Successful restaurateur Giorgio Nava has established a loyal following for upmarket eating with Cape Town’s 95 Keerom Street and Carne. Nava and chef Carl Penn’s latest collective offering is sandwiched amid Long Street’s cafés, backpackers and burger bars. Down South food bar is dedicated to hearty Southern food in the form of prawns and ribs. Think along the lines of prawn cocktail, prawn sandwiches or prawns with garlic and chilli mayo. Loin or belly ribs make an appearance in a sticky marinade. Industrial greys and wood panelling feature prominently in this narrow space and Jack Black beer is on tap. 267 Long Street; tel 021 422 1155
