Maze of confusion
At the time of going to print, the rumour mill was in overdrive after chef Gordon Ramsay had his international Maze restaurant consultancy pulled from Sol Kerzner’s One&Only Cape Town luxe city resort. After the slow Cape winter season and closures of some upmarket city venues, would any local chefs be persuaded to risk filling the tables of this vast masculine, brown-toned dining space? Well, after initially saying no and then being made an “offer we couldn’t refuse”, chef Reuben Riffel has put his name to the 170-seater hotel restaurant on a consultancy basis. Re-opening during October, Riffel’s 28-chef team serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel and visiting guests.
Unlike the restaurant at Robertson Small Hotel where the menu isn’t confined to Riffel’s personal style, Reuben’s at the One&Only is modelled on the original Franschhoek bistro with banquette seating and Riffel signature favourites such as chilli-salt squid. Importantly, pricing isn’t over the top. Go to www.reubens.co.za or call 021 431 5222.
