Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek

Published: 01 Dec 10

EAT WITH YOUR EYES
Award-winning Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek tends to set local culinary trends rather than follow them. Latest innovation The Common Room replaces iCi restaurant.

The casual breakfast-to-nibbles-to-dinner spot is designed as a local grazing ground with no reservations required. Pick on tasty snacks or order visually appealing ‘building blocks’ for a meal. It’s tapas with South African flair: risotto with waterblommetjies, broad beans and buffalo-milk labne or chickpeas with chorizo and mint. Adopt a Dutch streak in flat koek – flattened vetkoek – with lamb frikkadeletjies and raita, to bitterballen dipped in apple mustard. Fish poppers on sticks accompany spicy African chakalaka ketchup.

Heavier options include Botswana free-range beef fillet with buchu béarnaise. Creativity extends to décor, such as the multi-coloured striped bar. For bookings call 021 876 2151 or go to www.lequartier.co.za.
