A neo-psychedelic personality restaurant, fuelled by the imagination of chef-patron Shane Sauvage. The menu is a cook’s world tour, from frogs legs and lasagne to Cajun steak, springbok carpaccio and granadilla-sauced crocodile to Thai curries. Unexpected combinations often work well and are almost invariably fortified – various steaks with red wine, Sambucca and flambéed Cognac, Cointreau, Maraschino and Triple Sec with various fish. Specialities include Aztec mushrooms (with chocolate and tequila) and the kaleidoscopic Mango Groove duck salad. Purists will frown at idiosyncrasies (risotto not made with arborio or carnaroli) and at the over-long menu. But it certainly contains something for all and exuberant flavouring does make for memorable eating.
