La Motte is cooking

Published: 01 Nov 10

New Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant serves Cape winelands cuisine infused with boerekos elements at Franschhoek’s La Motte wine farm. But chef Chris Erasmus – previously at Le Quartier Français and Ginja – defies stereotypes. With recipes inspired by Roman, Arab and 17th-century Europe cultures, Erasmus’ plates include spiced and smoked lamb soutribbetjie with pickled tongue and dried pear dumplings with parsnips, broad bean shoots and verjus-poached pears. Daytime on the tree-shaded deck is ideal for families. Don’t miss the Farm Shop for buying artisan Shiraz sourdough, old-style Karoo preserves, melktert and spices.

Breakfast at weekends, lunch Monday to Sunday, dinner Thursday to Saturday. Call 021 876 8000 or go to www.la-motte.com.
