Khayamandi is cooking

AmaZink is the latest eatery to attract Stellenbosch foodies for lunch, dinner or televised sporting action. Overture chef Bertus Basson was roped in as culinary consultant, but with a location in Khayamandi township, owner Loyiso Mbambo is hands-on in the spotless open kitchen. Food is served on hand-painted tables in colourful ethnic designs; chairs in primary colours add liveliness.

The menu is centred on good value and home cooking - think vegetable soup with vetkoek, chicken peri-peri with veggies, or pap, wors and curried chakalaka. Ernst Gouws makes the AmaZink white and red house wines. Tel 021 889 7536, www.amazink.co.za.
