With plush décor and subdued lighting, this is one of the more up-market purveyors of North Indian food in Durban. The restaurant is situated in a cavernous room that can feel intimidatingly empty on a quiet day. In a town that has a focus on South Indian culinary traditions, the North Indian emphasis of the menu is deliciously different. Waiters are eager to educate their clients as to the wonders of the food genre and the menu gives a helpful chilli rating to indicate levels of hotness. Platters of seekh kebabs, chicken, lamb and fish tikka kebabs are ideal for gregarious sharing. Breads from the tandoor are ideal for mopping up the sumptuous richness of lamb korma or prawns in a thick cashew nut and cream-based gravy. From paneer to vegetable korma, the vegetarian is also well-served. Chill afterwards with a Bombay crush, soji or gulab jamun.
