The Monarch Hotel

Forget clichéd Mozart sonatas in the foyer. The Monarch Hotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg, has revamped the old Saxonwold Post Office into a sexy stayover. DJ Damian Armstrong is credited with having created "an upbeat playlist" to grace the passages.

Twelve suites (each with dining facilities) make up the posh hotel that also aims to cater for the rich and paparazzi-chased, with VIP and celebrity backdoors the order of the day. Take out your Jackie O's and enjoy lunch or dinner in the dining room where a seven-course tasting menu is served matched with wines from a winelist that offers very drinkable wines "but also features some rare finds". " I found the winelist very limited. There were 2 to 3 white wines and red wines to choose from. The food was however spectacular. The music needs some work. "
