Groote Post in 2011

Author: Sasha van Zyl
Published: 01 Dec 11

Groote Post, the beautiful wine farm in the Darling Hills owned by Peter and Nick Pentz, has had an excellent yield from the 2011 wine competitions and ratings that they entered, both locally and internationally. We give them merit to the fact that the accolades were spread fairly evenly across Groote Post’s three ranges: the Reserve range; the Groote Post range; and The Old Man’s Blend range.

Nick Pentz is reflective about the success of Groote Post’s wines, “Naturally we’re delighted with these accolades and it’s a credit to our small but dedicated team, guided by our winemaker Lukas Wentzel. We need to acknowledge though, that 2011 was only our 13th vintage, and, although we have come a long way in winemaking terms there is a long road ahead, a journey we look forward to with great passion and anticipation. Also, I am happy to report that our whole team has performed with resilience and discipline in coming through a challenging year for the wine industry.”

If you are visiting the Groote Post Wine Estate make sure to taste the wines mentioned above, as well as stopping in at Hilda's Kitchen, which was voted one of the Best Country-Style Restaurants by 2012 Eat Out magazine.

A unique feature of the estate is that they now offer guests to join them for a game drive on their 2000 hectare farm. Visitors will spot the game to which Groote Post is home, namely: Eland, Kudu, Gemsbok, Bontebok, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, Fallow Deer, Ostrich, Black Wildebeest as well as Quaggas. For those more inclined towards flora than fauna, one will appreciate the farm’s conservation of the highly threatened renosterveld that makes up 4.75% of South Africa’s total area.
