Grape – Stories of the Vineyards in South Africa

Published: 17 Jun 11

GRAPE – STORIES OF THE VINEYARDS

Grape – Stories of the Vineyards in South Africa is a welcome addition to our national wine library. This history-style book was compiled and written by DA member of parliament Wilmot James, chancellor of Rhodes University Jakes Gerwel and journalist Jeanne Viall. It is a factual and enlightening reference book covering topics from history and economics, to journalism, agriculture and geography. The main focus of the book is of course the path of the grape in South Africa over more than 350 years, but it also delves into the history of the ‘coloured’ community of South Africa, whose lives have largely revolved around the vine. Something that one won’t find in other history books pertaining to South Africa and the grape alike are the numerous personal interviews found throughout the pages that create an insider-scope appreciation. Definitely a must for all passionate grape producers, consumers and South Africans in general.
