Eating in orbit

Published: 01 Jan 11

The Planet Bar at the Mount Nelson caused a stir as the Cape Town ‘it’ spot where local trendies and occasional international celebs could be found orbiting a few years back. As of December 2010, the new Planet restaurant has been kicking up plenty of intergalactic dust. Silvertinged metallics merge with cream and grey tones in the former Cape Colony venue’s pillars, arched ceilings and stylish-yet-not-stuffy furniture.

The new chic atmosphere of the Planet

Swarovski crystal ‘stars’ line the entrance passageway and the chic dining space flickers with shooting-star chandeliers. Glowing wine racks and an elegant conservatory enclose two distinct dining options, and an ‘out of this world’ a la carte menu includes rooibos-cured ostrich and crayfi sh ceviche to Springbok pie and chocolatecentred baked meringue.
