De Waterkant back up

With news of the R7-million Vanilla restaurant being opened in October 2009 by Camps Bay restaurateur Nigel Newhouse and a consultancy line-up of Haute Cabrière chef Matthew Gordon along with a swanky architect/interior team producing a "vanilla-coated baby grand", De Waterkant moves from building zone to happening hangout again.

To less fanfare, neighbour The Nose has reopened as Chenin Restaurant Wine Bar where new South African owners Craig Edgar (who is hands-on) and British partner Nicole Sandham have introduced chef Daniel Heyns to ensure a "brasserie with a twist" food focus. Signatures include roast duck with spicy apricot sauce, ostrich carpaccio and onglet steak with pomme dauphine.

Focused on wines by the glass, the list changes frequently. Wine appreciation courses too. Tel 021 425 2200.
