COOKING CLASSES ARE COMING

Franschhoek’s culinary credentials will receive a boost in the last quarter of 2011 when the team behind Cape Town’s Chefs Warehouse and Cookery School rolls out cooking classes at a revamped Leopard’s Leap winery. Accomplished Irish chef Liam Tomlin (pictured right) is the creative juice behind the new venture in partnership with wife Jan, together with Hein Koegelenberg and Hanneli Rupert. Chefs Warehouse offers demonstrations only, but the Franschhoek space will stage hands-on cooking for 24 participants. It’s aimed at “anybody seriously interested in cooking who wants to equip themselves and have fun” instead of an accredited culinary training centre for pros. “I will be running many of the courses, with some chefs assisting participants on the floor,” says Tomlin. “We’ll also use guest local chefs and perhaps some international ones.” Leopard’s Leap will have a new wine-tasting room, delicatessen, a shop selling high-end functional kitchen equipment and cooking stations under one roof. www.chefswarehouse.co.za
