Cederberg wine ward and Citrusdal wine region

Published: 11 Feb 09

The Citrusdal Mountain district including the Piekenierskloof ward and the Citrusdal Valley district might be part of the Olifants River region, but they’re a considerable distance south of Klawer, Vredendal and Lutzville – over 50km to Clanwilliam, another 50km plus to Klawer. The town of Citrusdal on the N7 north of Piketberg is the home of Goue Vallei, of which much is expected following a recent change in ownership. West of the town is the home of Johan van Zyl, the Piekenierskloof and Tierhoek, which has shown much promise, with white wines in particular. From here it’s a 45-minute drive north-west to Elandsbaai, famous for its crayfish.
