Buying guide: Gewürztraminer
Key findings: The wines under review were all pleasant enough without generating real excitement. The panel speculated that the category suffered from a lack of serious intent when it came to winemaking with most of the producers working with Gewürztraminer having done so for years, their aim simply being to supply a wellestablished niche market rather than make outstanding site-specific wines.
In fairness, it’s a variety that’s never going to have massive popular appeal and consumers are probably well-served when it comes to the quality to price ratio of what’s on offer.
