Restaurants by Richard Griffin

Published: 01 Jan 11

What do Kloof Street’s Bombay Bicycle Club and Café Paradiso, The Sidewalk Café in Vredehoek and CBD old-timer coffee shop Café Mozart have in common?

They’ve all had their menu, décor and management spruced up. Madame Zingara Theatre of Dreams restaurateur Richard Griffin has taken four neighbourhood venues under his creative wing, retaining what works and tweaking the rougher edges. Café Mozart (tel 021 424 3774) in Cape Town’s antique area now offers everything from boiled egg soldiers with coffee breakfasts to Mozart burgers and mussel pots, while Sidewalk Café (tel 021 461 2839) dishes up comforting classic breakfast stacks or lentil moussaka with roasted veg to neighbourhood broads who brunch or lunch. Café Paradiso (tel 021 423 8653) retains its Mediterranean flavour with homemade pastas, fish and lamb bakes. Bombay Bicycle Club (tel 021 423 6805) is the dinner venue to let your hair down and stay up way past your bedtime over phyllo parcels to ravioli or ribs.

Richard Griffin has
taken his Theatre of
Dreams experience
and applied it to a
host of Cape Town
eateries.
