Bo-Kaap’s Haas Coffee Collective

Published: 26 Apr 11

COFFEE AT R80 A CUP!

Gourmands aren’t strangers to the world of exotic foods. The usual scenario: the rarer or less accessible the item, the greater the price – think Italian white truffles or China’s bird’s nest soup. Enter the Bo-Kaap’s new Haas Coffee Collective, exclusively selling two rare coffees at R80 and R60 per cup respectively. The Rose Street roastery and espresso bar is roasting Indonesian Kopi Luwak beans imported by Strictly Coffee in Robertson. Kopi Luwak sells at nearly R3 000 per kilogram, its unique soft flavour from beans that have travelled through the digestive system of the Asian palm civet in Sumatra. High-altitude Jamaican Blue Mountain is another option at R1 824 per kilogram, or R60 per cup. For those with more modest tastes, Haas also offers lattes and ‘cinos’ at more standard prices. Beans are roasted daily – order a cup at stylish interior or pavement tables. 67 Rose Street, Bo-Kaap, Cape Town; tel 021 422 4413
