Best Value Wine Guide 2010
In this guide, Value Awards are presented for top-scoring wines on a 10-point Value scale, which takes into account the quality of the wine in relation to the price it sells for. There are many other wines reviewed in the guide that rate as well or better on quality but cost more, and all represent good value below the R60 price ceiling… A total of 1093 wines were considered for inclusion in the 2010 Best Value Wine Guide, with the 384 chosen wines ranging in quality from ‘appealing’ to ‘very good’ and ‘excellent’.
Good Value Rating System – from 1 to 10
The parameters in determining a Value rating for each wine in this guide were:
A The quality of the wine (Star rating)
B The retail selling price per 750ml
C The average price of the wines according to the category of wine and taking packaging into account
The Value rating is determined as follows: A × (C ÷ B). This is then factored so that the top-scoring wines are given a Value rating of 10, after which other scores are similarly factored to give a Value rating out of 10 for each wine.
