WHY? Because this renowned, "carbon neutral" wine estate with its charming tree-lined driveway leading to flower-fringed lawns has made an art of planning and hosting weddings, offering events that are personal despite being geared to groups of up to 150. There are several options for outdoor receptions with Bedouin tents or marquees, while Neville's Place is a versatile function venue with French doors opening onto the gardens. The old wine cellar is a more intimate venue for smaller groups, but with limited catering options.
"Nothing is written in stone," they say, which means menus and just about everything else will be planned in line with your brief. All catering is done in conjunction with Extreem Kwizeen, an accommodating and professional team who might propose, say, a Mediterranean feast with platters placed directly onto the tables for guests to help themselves and pass around the table. Only wines from the Backsberg wine list may be ordered.
WE THINK... Backsberg's old wine cellar is one of the best and most authentic ceremony settings, with guests flanked by giant oak fermentation barrels.
