Allesverloren receives Sweden's highest wine award
Fifth-generation Swartland winemaker, Danie Malan of Allesverloren, received one of the highest accolades when he went up again finalists from Italy and Germany and won the Golden Glass in Sweden’s International Producer of the Year annual competition. Held under the auspices of Alt Om Mat, one of Sweden’s foremost lifestyle magazines, the Vintner was chosen by a panel of five top Swedish wine writers and is the first time in the 53-year history of the award that a South African winemaker has won. The judges credited Malan for the excellence of Allesverloren wines but also praised his pioneering of the use of traditional port varietals to make classically styled natural red table wines. These wines are also highly rated in South Africa with the Touriga Naçional recently winning gold at Veritas. The Swartland is currently regarded as one of the Cape’s highest-potential wine-growing regions by many observers and was recently highlighted in the internationally distributed US Weekly, Time magazine.
