96 WINERY ROAD TURNS 15

A favourite with winemakers and wine lovers alike, 96 Winery Road turns 15 in May this year. To celebrate, during the month of May the restaurant is offering a free main course to anybody born in May – ID required. This oft-frequented Helderberg spot is best known for aged, marbled steaks and classic old-timers such as ‘Hollandse’ pepper fillet and duck and cherry pie – harking to Forrester’s Gatriles restaurant days. With vintners Ken Forrester and Martin Meinert involved as co-owners since May 1996, a comprehensive South African-focused wine cellar has been the restaurant’s trademark. No surprise then that a 96 Winery Road milestone was becoming the first local restaurant to earn a Wine Spectator magazine wine list award of excellence. The May birthday offer is valid for lunch or dinner, but is limited to one free meal per person.
