Set amidst the vineyards on Winery Road, this vibey, friendly restaurant serves unpretentious comfort food with an elegant edge. Chef Natasha Harris turns out tender rabbit stewed in red wine and silken calamari curry with an avalanche of crisp, crunchy sambals. Owner Ken Forrester’s influence is seen in the form of the incomparably delicious duck and cherry pie that came with him from his previous incarnation at Johannesburg’s legendary Gatrilles. The menu claim that the salad is “orgasmic” is perhaps pushing it, but the organic leaves topped with Parmesan are certainly very pleasant. Carnivores should know about the superb in-house cured meat (minimum 18 days). Indecisive diners opt for the Winery Road Safari Platter (a sweet-toothed tasting plate allowing for little morsels of everything that the dessert menu has to offer), but connoisseurs know to head straight for the glazed apple tart with just the right ratio of crunch in the pastry to caramelised fruit in the topping.
